Well Written Wednesdays: as small as a world

beach
{image credit: The Family Dog}
maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to the beach(to play one day)

and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn't remember her troubles,and

milly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;

and molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:

and may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone.

For whatever we lose(like a you or a me)
it's always ourselves we find in the sea

No beach for us this year-- first we lacked time, now I lack energy--but we do love it. There's nothing like the ocean horizon, the whisper of waves, and a wide expanse of sand. Thankfully, we got a good dose of the sea in Maine earlier this summer! Oh, how I wish I could be there now. Fresh air makes all the different in my current queasy state, and salt air? The best.

  1. I'm with you on the 'beach dreaming'.

    "as small as a world and as large as alone" (love it)

  2. Love this poem, and hadn't seen it before. Thanks for posting! I've been nosing around your blog and like the layout and the ambiance. A nice font (with serifs) and plenty of white space make a solid platform on which to display your good writing on topics I like. Just seeing how many posts have the tag Quotations and Poems draws me in right away.
